Clinical Albion thump Rose Hall Town Bakewell to claim title

BCB/Raffik Construction 100 Balls final…

By Brandon Corlette in Berbice

The Albion Cricket Club got the better of their arch-rivals Rose Hall Town (RHT) Bakewell in the Berbice Cricket Board-staged final match of the Raffik Construction 100 Balls tournament played at the Port Mourant Community Centre Ground yesterday.

Champion team, Albion

Albion registered a nine-wicket win over RHT Bakewell in this matchup.
Batting first, RHT Bakewell were bundled out for 73 in 16.2 overs. Albion, producing decent efforts with the bowling and the fielding, topped their performance with a clinical batting effort in which “player of the match” Adrian Sukwah and captain Sharaz Ramcharran displayed their class.
In the RHT innings, former Guyana U-19 player Junior Sinclair top-scored with 29 from 28 balls, which included three fours. Sinclair shared a 31-run opening partnership with Samuel Kissoonlall (13).
With the score at 40-2, Ricardo Ramdeholl fell for a duck to left-arm spinner Kelvin Umroa; and with wickets continuing to fall at regular intervals, RHT Bakwell lost their last eight batsmen for only 33 runs.
Albion took advantage of the poor running between the wickets to effect four run outs. Keith Simpson looked in rebuilding mode, but his blooming innings concluded when he fell for 12.
Umroa, a former Guyana U-19 spinner, claimed 3-19 in 4.2 overs to be the pick of the Albion bowlers. Leon Cecil, Ramcharran and Sarwan Chaitnarine bagged one wicket each in a collective bowling effort.
In Albion’s rush to victory, their one minor hiccup was the fall of Jitendra Outar’s wicket, run-out after he had made only six runs. He departed with the score on 23-1, then the Sukwah-Ramcharran show began.
This dynamic duo added an unbroken 51 runs to lead the charge for Albion. Sukwah, opening the batting, took his chances early on to end with a blistering 45 which came from 35 balls. His innings was laced with three sixes and two fours.
Classy in his approach, Ramcharran was Captain Marvel personified as he stroked an unbeaten 23 from 16 balls, which was decorated with three elegant boundaries.
Albion finished the contest on 74-1 in 9.4 overs of domination. The run out of Outar was the only joy for RHT.
After the match, Albion received cash and a trophy for their victory, while RHT Bakewell earned a runner-up trophy. Albion skipper Ramcharran thanked BCB for hosting the final, and congratulated his team on a well-deserved victory.
These two forces will clash today in the BCB Let’s Bet Sports 100-ball final to be played at Albion from 13:00h.
