Colts pocket half million for “Road to Mecca” championships

The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) held their presentation ceremony for the National Club Championship 2016, Road to Mecca at Palm Court on Saturday evening.
City team Colts United who defeated the Retrieve Raiders basketball Club out of Linden 75 – 55 to win the national title in the replayed finals on April 23 were the beneficiaries of the 0,000. first prize.

Veteran player Neil Marks was present to collect the second place prize of $250,000 on behalf of the Retrieve Raiders Club.
The road to mecca III was a successfully ran tournament by the GABF which saw scores of fans returning to the mecca of basketball in Guyana, the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. This year’s tournament saw quality and competitive basketball.
Outstanding junior player Stanton Rose of Colts was deservedly awarded the tournament MVP while Dane Kendall also of the Colts walked away with the coach of the tournament award.
Presented at the ceremony was vice president of the GABF Michael Singh who gave special thanks to Jamaal Douglas of the Mackeson brand for their tremendous support towards the tournament and basketball. Singh also thanked the clubs for their high level of play and promised a bigger championship for 2017.
Mr. Douglas expressed delight at Ansa McAl being involved in the tournament and urged all basketball fans and players to be prepared for the upcoming Mackeson 3 on 3 competition.
Next on the calendar for the GABF is the hosting of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) under – 16 Championships which begins on July 3 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown.
