Four residents of Kwakwani, Upper Berbice River, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) were sentenced to serve community service by Magistrate Wanda Fortune after they were found guilty of violating the COVID-19 restrictions.
Five violators were initially charged and appeared at the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court, including Jermaine Young, Sheldon McAlmont, Lerron Greaves, Ronald Tulsie and Inderjeet Dhanna; however, all except Dhanna were sentenced to three hours of community service at the Kwakwani Police Station. Dhanna is scheduled to return to court on September 4 for the commencement of his trial.
The prosecution’s case indicated that about 22:00h on July 4, the defendants were observed drinking in a yard by Police on patrol. They were all told of the offence committed and transported to the Kwakwani Police Station and subsequently charged. (G13)
