A 27-year-old construction worker was arrested on Monday, following the discovery of over 100 grams (g) of cannabis during a Police operation at Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Police said that at about 11:08h, ranks attached to the Onderneeming Sand Pit Police Outpost were conducting an operation along the Onderneeming Sand Pit Access Road when they observed the suspect riding a motorcycle.
According to Police, the man attempted to turn around upon seeing the ranks, but was stopped.
A search was conducted, during which ranks allegedly found a transparent plastic bag concealed on the suspect containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Police said further investigations led ranks to a residence, where the suspect reportedly pointed out an area in which another bag containing suspected cannabis was found.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Suddie Police Station.
The cannabis found on the man weighed four grams, while the quantity recovered at the residence weighed 101.5g.
The suspect remains in Police custody pending charges.
