Construction worker slapped with narco, illegal ammo charges

A construction worker of Hope Estate, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was slapped with charges of illegal possession of ammunition and trafficking in narcotics.
Jamal Anthony, of Hope Estate, and also of Guyhoc Park Squatting Area was arrested on February 14 for the offence of possession of ammunition without licence, contrary to Section 16 (2a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.
It is alleged that he had eight 12-gauge shotgun cartridges and four .38 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

It is further alleged that the 27-year-old also had in his possession 42 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5 (1ai) of the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance (Control) Act, Chapter 10/10. He was also charged for cultivating a prohibited plant contrary to Section 8(1ai) of the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance (Control) Act, Chapter 10/10.
On Monday, Anthony appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore and the charges were read to him.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Bail was refused and he was remanded to prison. The cases were transferred to the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court and will continue on March 26, 2024. (G2)
