Convicted robber slapped with armed robbery charge

A Leopold Street, Georgetown resident, who is known to the law and was released from prison on May 24, 2019, found himself before the court once again for armed robbery.

Omalo Williams

Twenty-seven-year-old Omalo Williams, a father of two, stood before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Monday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and pleaded not guilty to two counts of armed robbery.
The Police stated that on May 25, 2019, at Smyth and Leopold Streets, while in the company of others and armed with guns, Williams robbed LaToya Lowenfield of a $170,000 cellphone.
It is further alleged that Williams, along with his accomplices, robbed Odwin Lowenfield of a cellphone and cash totalling $91,000.
Police Prosecutor Adduni Innis objected to bail on the grounds that Williams was no stranger to the court since he has served an 11-month sentence for similar charges and was released from prison in May. She further indicated to the court that the accused had other charges before another court.
According to court documents, on the day in question, the victims were walking along Smyth and Leopold, Streets when they were confronted by Williams and his accomplices, who were armed with guns and relieved the victims of their valuables before making good their escape.
A report was made and Police ranks later arrested Williams. He was positively identified by the victims during an ID parade.
Williams was remanded to prison, and his next court appearance was scheduled for June 24, 2019.
