Cop charged for assault, colleague who shot him on the run

Twenty-four-year-old Police Constable David Lampkin of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara (WBD) appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday charged with unlawful assault.
Lampkin pleaded not guilty to the charge read by Chief Magistrate McLennan, which stated that on January 31, 2021, at Brickdam Police Station, his unlawfully assaulted his colleague, Constable Corinth Corbin.
Meanwhile, the Constable’s Attorney told the court that his client was shot to his leg by another officer while he was on duty. He added that his client who was the victim is complying with the court while the accused was still on the run. As such, he requested reasonable bail for his client.
However, the Prosecutor told the court that the officers were involved in a scuffle and Lampkin was shot. He added that Corbin was wanted, and once arrested, would face charges.

Lampkin was released on self-bail, and was scheduled to reappear in court on May 18, 2021.
Police, in a previous report, stated that Constable Lampkin was shot to his leg about 05:00h on January 31.
Police said that the two ranks were on duty at the Brickdam Police Station when an argument ensued over a missing pair of slippers.
Following the incident, Constable Lampkin was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound to his right leg. (G15)
