Flung from ATV
…unable to speak
The policeman who suffered severe head injuries after being flung off a vehicle while executing his duties has been transferred to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Constable 23688 Harris, who is attached to the Bartica Police Station, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), underwent a much-needed surgery at 02:00h on Monday and is in a semi-conscious state, this newspaper was told.
When contacted, Commander of Region Seven, Senior Superintendent Linden Lord said that surgery was done to aid in reducing the swelling of the Constable’s brain.
He noted that Constable Harris is unable to speak although he has attempted to move his lips. However, the injured cop can move his hands and other limbs.
Commander Lord noted that the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has the young man in prayers and wish him a speedy recovery.
Based on reports received, the policemen had been travelling through the Takatu Trail, Mazaruni River, Region Seven, towards a location where they had received reports of a shooting incident.
Reports are that the vehicle was proceeding north along the Takatu Trail, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when the driver swerved to avoid a ‘pothole’.
The unexpected move resulted in Constable Harris being flung off of the ATV and landing on the roadway.
According to the police, Constable Harris received injuries about his body. He was picked up by his colleagues and rushed to the Bartica Regional Hospital.
Upon examination of the injured cop, the doctor immediately admitted the man at the hospital, but hours later he had to be transferred to the GPHC for advanced medical care.
