Corentyne fisherman brutally chopped to death

A Friendship, Corentyne family is questioning whether the killing of their 23-year-old relative could have been prevented, claiming that police had been alerted to an earlier confrontation involving people they believe were connected to Monday night’s deadly attack.
The family said on Tuesday that police were informed before 23-year-old Chittesh Sukhai was chopped to death at Friendship Village, Corentyne, Region Six
The final moments of Sukhai’s life unfolded just a short distance from his Friendship Village home late Monday night.
He was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
In a release the police said two cutlasses suspected to have been used during the incident were recovered in the vicinity.

Dead: Chittesh Sukhai called “Rohan” and “Marsho”

Police subsequently apprehended two males, ages 27 and 23, of Friendship and Limlair Villages, Corentyne, respectively, in connection with the incident.
Sukhai’s mother Geeta Davi called “Sabrina” in an interview with the media said that she witnessed four persons pursuing her son but a blackout, she recalled, plunged the area into darkness.
When she eventually located him, he was lying on the grass in another yard.
“Last night (Monday night) my son was in the kitchen with me and he told me he was going over by the neighbour. So, I told him alright and I will wait for him by the window. I was watching them from the window when I heard the neighbour tell him that he is going and sleep. I told my son to come over now. He said he would come through the hole in the fence,” the woman recalled.
Police on Tuesday said that Sukhai, called “Rohan” and “Marsho”, was involved in an argument with a female relative shortly before several males reportedly arrived at the location armed with cutlasses.
His father, Dianand Sukhai, saw his son afterwards.
“His head was open, his back was open, his throat, his jaw had a chop and you seeing the jaw bone, his neck had a chop. I just couldn’t see him anymore… The chop was too much… The chop was too much, his brain split out of his head, his head was open.”
They claim an earlier confrontation had already led them to seek police intervention.
Sukhai’s sister, Roshanie, said the family made a report and was told officers would visit and issue a warning if the situation continued.
She alleges that never happened.
“August 31… he came out the road and he was waiting for the food and while he was waiting, he walked into the supermarket and saw her [the same female relative with whom he had the argument with on Monday night] there, she went to the supermarket too. And she walked up to him and she slapped him and he slapped her back…They threatened him and we go to the station and make a report that dem boys threatening him to kill him and the police say that they will come and give them the warning, and if they don’t stop it and the police are never to come back, they never to tell them or come and inform or tell them anything,” Roshanie said.
Police have since launched an investigation.
