Cozier’s double sends Channel 9 Warriors packing

A splendid double by Jamal Cozier powered Broad Street to a scintillating 3-1 victory over the usually dominant Channel 9 Warriors when the Ministry of Health/Petra Organisation/ Busta Soft Shoe Football Competition continued on Thursday evening at the Public Health Ministry ground, Brickdam.
As the rain stayed away, the crowd grew and they were treated to two skilful goals by Cozier in the space of two minutes (21st and 22nd), which turned the tide of the match after Channel 9’s Stephan McLean opened the scoring in the 18th.
Jimmy Gravesande added the icing on the cake for Broad Street, etching his name unto the score sheet in the 25th minute.
Defending Champions Sparta Boss eased through to the next round via a 4-2 win over Albouystown, with star players Devon Millington and Gregory Richardson netting respective doubles.
Millington’s brace came in the 3rd and 31st while Richardson scored in the 2nd and 33rd; Kemo Scott breached Sparta Boss’ defence twice (22nd and 25th) in a losing cause.

A hat-trick by Tefron Daly led the onslaught, netting in the 12th, 14th and 25th minutes respectively. Dennis Edwards added two more goals in the 4th and 13th minutes, while Rafael Edwards converted in the 28th. Marlon Nedd (2nd) and Ozela Small (5th) put Campbellville ahead in the early stages of the match.
Similarly, Globe Yard eased to 3-1 win over North Ruimveldt, with Delon Lanferman etching his name on the score sheet in the 9th and 11th minutes, while Andrew Murray Jr hit the back of the 10th; veteran player Gerald Gittens secured a consolation goal in the 27th.
Matches will continue today at the Education Ministry ground, Carifesta Avenue, where North East La Penitence will take on Holmes Street Tiger Bay from 21:00h, followed by Kitty Weavers and Leopold Street at 21:45h.
Queen Street Tiger Bay will then look to hold off the confident Alexander Village from 22:30h, after which Sophia and West Front Road will lock horns at 23:15h.
Following the conclusion of this round, the event will enter the quarterfinal stage. Winner of the event will collect $300,000 and the championship trophy while the second placed side will receive $200,000 and the runner-up accolade.
On the other hand, the third placed side will receive $100,000 and the respective trophy while the fourth place finishers will pocket $50,000 and the corresponding title.
