Crash cuts short Cutting’s campaign in French Guiana

Ajani Cutting’s campaign in French Guiana ended prematurely after the Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycle Club (KARCC) rider suffered a high-speed crash during the Grand Prix S3T/Ouest Fleurs in Saint-Laurent du Maroni on Saturday.
Cutting was one of three KARCC cyclists invited by the Vélo Club du Maroni to compete in two Grand Prix events over the weekend. He was joined by Kwame “Key Man” Ridley and Andre “Padlock” Greene, while Kevin Edwards served as team manager.
According to Cutting, two cyclists directly ahead of him touched wheels and fell, leaving him with little time to avoid the collision. He was thrown forward from his bicycle before being run over by other riders caught in the incident.
Cutting injured his right thigh, and he was transported by ambulance to the starting point for medical treatment. Although he initially believed he would be able to compete in Sunday’s Grand Prix Sanyrapid/LA Transports, the injury proved more serious than first thought.

The KARCC team faced a difficult weekend as the strong pace of the peloton tested the Guyanese riders. Many of the French Guiana cyclists were reportedly preparing for an upcoming international assignment and displayed a high level of fitness throughout the races.
Despite the setback, Cutting, who is competing in his first year at the elite level in Guyana, said there were positives to take from the experience. He was particularly impressed by the speed and conditioning of the riders before his race was brought to an early end.
Cutting said he hopes to compete more regularly in French Guiana, believing that the challenging terrain and competitive racing will help him develop as an emerging cyclist.
