Crawford is new GCUC president

First-Class Umpire, Shannon Crawford has been elected to head the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council (GCUC) following their Biennial General Meeting on Sunday at the Mayor and City Council Union Hall, Woolford Avenue.
With two lists submitted, Crawford was unopposed for the post after being serving as Vice President to former First Class Umpire D. Samwaru for the past two years ago.
While Crawford was not present at the meeting as he is in Barbados officiating in the Group B matches of the ongoing Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Super 50 tournament. The president sent a formal correspondence expressing his interest to serve the council and apologized for his absence as duty calls.

His deputy is the current president of the Demerara and Georgetown Umpires and Cricket Scorers Associations, Arleigh Rutherford.
Nolan Hawke replaced international Umpire Nigel Duguid as Secretary since Duguid did not seek re-election to the post while former international Umpire Edward Nicolls was returned as Treasurer. Up and coming local Umpire, Javid Persaud made his debut on the council as Assistant Secretary/ Treasurer while local Umpire and international cricket commentator Matthew Kissoon is the new Public Relations Officer. The committee members are Zabier Zakeer, Moses Ramphal, Joseph Jeffrey and Mikoowanyah Yisrael. Dawchand Nagassar was nominated by Berbice but did not turn up nor sent a letter expressing his interest or reason for absence.
In accordance to the rules of the council, the absence of a nominated person at the time of election shall not disqualify him /her from the election provided he / she has forwarded to the Secretary in writing his /her consent to accept office if elected.
