Session 23 of the World Mixed Doubles Curling championship being held in Sweden saw curling history made, when two Member Associations from South America faced each other on the ice on Wednesday.
Guyana played Brazil and when the post-match handshakes took place, Guyana had won by a score of 6-3 and picked up their third victory in a row.
After recording 9-6 and 11-4 victories over Austria and Ireland respectively on Tuesday, the Guyanese pair of Rayad Hussain and Farzana Hussain teamed up to defeat Brazil’s Aline Goncalves and Marcio Cerquinho 6-3 in Group E round-robin action.
They play Czech Republic today, and are fourth on the table with three wins and three defeats after six outings; however, according to Rayad, they will not progress to the play-offs ahead of Czech due to their opponents having more victories.
