CWI doubtful of hosting International, Regional cricket for remainder of 2020 – Shallow

COVID-19 has continued to affect cricket all around the world. From a Regional perspective, the Hero Caribbean Premier League saw the return of cricket since the conclusion of the truncated Regional 4-Day tournament back in March.
Cricket West Indies Vice-President Dr Kishore Shallow indicated that no international/regional cricket will be played by December 2020 in the Caribbean.
Shallow, appearing on the Mason and Guest radio programme, noted that there is a possibility the West Indies would tour New Zealand in November. In terms of Regional cricket, Shallow disclosed that Cricket West Indies (CWI) are looking to start the Regional Super50 tournament for January 2021, followed by the Regional 4-Day tournament.

“In the event that the New Zealand tour is successful, most of the Caribbean players will be away, so it will be better to have the Super 50 later, when the players return, which is in January early 2021, and that Super50 will be immediately followed by that tournament,” Shallow explained.
The West Indies toured England for a three-match Test series and the Women team are currently in England playing a five-match T20I series. Shallow said it will be great for the West Indies to host international cricket in the Caribbean region, and CWI are looking at hosting these tours early next year.
The last International tour in the Caribbean came in January 2020 against Ireland. West Indies were also set to play New Zealand in the Caribbean in July followed by hosting South Africa in July-August but Covid-19 came and halted plans. The ICC T20 World Cup was also slated for October/November while the senior men’s Regional tournaments were slated for the latter part of the year.
In 2019, the West Indies Emerging Players won the Regional Super50 Cup while in March 2020, Barbados Pride dethroned the Guyana Jaguars to claim the Regional 4-Day tournament. (Brandon Corlette)
