CWIMA targets youth development with 80 cricket bags for schools, academies

The Cricket West Indies Masters Association (CWIMA) will distribute 80 cricket bags to secondary schools and cricket academies across Guyana as part of a youth development initiative ahead of the 2026 International Masters Cricket (IMC) Over-40s World Cup.
CWIMA President Raj Singh said the programme is intended to help bring cricket back into schools while providing young, aspiring players with equipment and guidance to support their development.
West Indies Over-40 players will participate in the distribution exercise and interact with students. They are also expected to conduct coaching clinics, giving the youngsters an opportunity to learn directly from experienced cricketers.
Each bag will contain two cricket bats, two pairs of batting pads, two pairs of batting gloves, one pair of wicketkeeper pads, one pair of wicketkeeper gloves, one gear bag and a box of six cricket balls.
Singh said individuals and businesses can sponsor a cricket bag for US$400, describing the programme as an opportunity to make a direct and meaningful contribution to communities across Guyana.
The distribution will take place shortly before the IMC Over-40s World Cup, which is scheduled to bowl off on October 17 and conclude on November 1. The 45-over competition will feature 16 teams, with round-robin matches being played across Demerara, Essequibo and Berbice.
Defending champions South Africa will be joined by hosts West Indies, Canada, the United States, Sri Lanka, India, Scotland, Pakistan, England, Australia, New Zealand, Colombia, Wales, Namibia, the Rest of the World XI, and the Rest of the Caribbean XI.
