Dassie & Friends Promotion softball cricket in Canada: Bhagwandin banking on his team to do well in tourney

Brampton Gladiators are intensifying their preparations ahead of the 2022 Dassie and Friends Promotion’s one-day softball cricket extravaganza on Saturday, May 21st at Keele Top, North York Toronto.

Canada-based Guyanese Naresh Bhagwandin, captain of the Brampton Gladiators, in an invited comment declared that his boys are anxious to compete, and are equally confident of winning the first prize of Cdn $2,000 and a trophy.
According to Bhagwandin, the team has several plans to make a big impression, and will not be complacent, since other teams are coming out to fire in all cylinders.
“I think [is] just about smart cricket. Is a knockout tournament and a one-day event. There is pressure, but I have a bunch of guys who can be match-winners,” Bhagwandin, who hails from Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, declared.
The day’s event will be played in memory of long-time servant to cricket Canada, Johnny Bujan. Bujan performed the duties of manager of the Canadian national cricket teams for several years, while he was a co-owner of Brampton Masters, a club that featured in the Toronto and District Cricket Association’s various tournaments. Bujan passed away in 2016 following a vehicle accident in Trinidad and Tobago.
Further, Bhagwandin stated that his side has few seasonal players, and that should also inspire them to do well. Some of the players are Guyanese Bobby Parasnauth, Sunil Ramkissoon and Avinash Sookdeo, among others.
“We are preparing hard for the event. We have some quality players who no doubt are familiar with things, they…have played last year, and as I said, (the tournament) is just about good and smart cricket from ball one,” Bhagwandin, the left-arm bowler, mentioned.
The action is set to commence at 09:30am, and according to organiser Damodar Daesrath, the stage is set for what should be a fascinating outing. Apart from some individual outstanding prizes, the second-placed team would pocket $500 and a trophy.
Dasrath, a former Guyana first-class captain, has expressed profound gratitude to the two main sponsors of the day’s activities: ALARM TECHZ and KP Employment Solutions Inc.
In the first edition, Assassins were victorious. Eight teams have indicated their participation in this round-arm 10-10 showdown.
