Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) defeated Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by 95 runs in Thursday’s final of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Guyana Diabetic Association (GDA) Under-17 tourney.
It was a one-sided affair played under lights at the DCC Ground on Thursday evening, as the home team took their momentum from the preliminary rounds into the finals, winning comfortably at home as they completed a successful title defence.
Tameshwar Permaul led the way with 45 with a pair of fours and four sixes while Brandon Jaikaran 30 (2×4), national youth opener and skipper Sachin Singh 30 (4×4) and Garrick Persaud 24 (1×4, 2×6) chipped in with useful runs, taking DCC to 153-3 in their 20 overs.
Bowling for Malteenoes, Kester Macalister, Mervin Permaul, Wayne Bollers and Chad Shivertan had a wicket each; however, in the end, their team was kept to a paltry 58 all out thanks to deadly spells from the DCC pair of Ezekiel Wilson (4-4) and Daniel Mootoo (4-9) who accounted for most of the wickets that fell.
