DDL donates sanitisers to 128 schools ahead of exams

Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) has once again pledged contributions of alcohol-based sanitising cleaner to the Education Ministry, to assist secondary schools as they prepare for the upcoming Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

The company announced that 128 secondary schools across the country will receive 19 litres each of the Environ cleanser, to be used by examination students. This is solely to safeguard against the spread of COVID-19 among these stakeholders.
The first donations were delivered directly on Friday, to three secondary schools within the Georgetown district: St Joseph High, South Ruimveldt Secondary and Richard Ishmael Secondary. The remainder will be delivered to the Ministry for distribution.
DDL’s Chairman Komal Samaroo in response to their efforts said, “The students who are about to write these examinations are our next generation of leadership and COVID-19 is the most recent addition to the challenges that they face on the road to development. As a company, we have remained focused on supporting education so this was an obvious decision for us to respond to the COVID-19 challenge that our current students face.”
The company is now working on arrangements to provide similar support to schools at other levels prior to the expected reopening in September.
This donation of 2500 litres to secondary schools adds to a previous one of 15,000 litres in March to senior citizens’ homes, orphanages, night shelters, prisons, and other facilities similar to these. In addition, the sanitising cleaner was distributed to agencies that provide public services to assist in keeping counter surfaces clean, mainly: post offices, police stations, health centres, and public hospitals.
