De Abreu charged for wounding popular T&T soca artiste “Benjai”
Four months after he was relieved of charges alleging that he fired shots at his pregnant girlfriend and sister, 25-year-old Maverick De Abreu found himself arraigned once more before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, this time for
allegedly wounding Trinidad soca sensation, Rodney Le Blanc, commonly known as “Benjai”, at a popular city nightspot several months ago.
The father of two, who resides in Broad and Alexander Streets, Georgetown, denied the charge which stated that on April 16, 2017, at Palm Court, in Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded the complainant.
The 27-year-old man is accused of hitting Le Blanc to the face with a glass bottle, causing him to suffer severe injuries during an argument moments after the artiste wrapped up a concert.
A heated argument reportedly ensued between the soca artiste, who was allegedly heavily intoxicated, and a taxi driver.
Reports are the driver came out of his car and Le Blanc reportedly advanced towards him. However, after seeing the commotion outside, De Abreu allegedly rushed out and dealt the singer one blow to his face with a bottle. It was reported
that earlier in the night, LeBlanc had allegedly misbehaved with De Abreu’s girlfriend.
Le Blanc was rushed to a private hospital where he received over a dozen stitches to his face.
Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore instructed De Abreu to make another court appearance on October 11, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Le Blanc was represented by Attorney Eusi Anderson and the accused was represented by Defence counsel Mark Waldron.
Meanwhile, the accused is out on $50,000 bail.
