Dead newborn baby dumped at Nandy Park

Police on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) are investigating the death of a newborn baby boy, whose body was found wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped along the Nandy Park, EBD access road.

According to reports received, the dead baby was found in front of an elderly woman’s house about 14:00h on Sunday. The afterbirth was also inside the bag.
The elderly woman, who made the discovery, told Police that she saw a bag lying in front of her home and went to investigate. Upon doing so, she saw the baby’s feet and immediately raised an alarm.
She did not notice any unusual movements in the area owing to heavy downpours during the day.
When contacted, Regional Police Commander, Senior Superintendent Kurleigh Simon confirmed that the newborn baby was found dead wrapped in a plastic bag and ranks were currently investigating.
In such a case, he noted, the matter will be treated as a homicide and once the culprit is caught, they will face the full brunt of the law.
