Georgetown Indigenous Female disqualified

An aggressive unbeaten 55 from Evelyn Baker led Santa Aratak of Region Three to a convincing six-wicket victory over the experienced Region Two United on day two of Heritage Games which is being held at the Everest Sports Club ground, Camp Road Georgetown.

Set 77 to win from eight overs, the debutants got home with five balls to spare after being reduced to 37/4 in the fifth over. The burly Baker hit three sixes and four fours as runs along the ground was difficult due to the wet and heavy outfield. Their more experienced opponents, Region Two United made a challenging 76/3 from their eight overs to set up the nail biting game.

The victory means that Santa Aratak will move on to today’s semi-final where they will meet St Cuthbert’s of Region Four. St Cuthbert’s booked their spot in the final-four stage when they defeated Orealla/Siparuta by 16 runs in a high scoring opening match. Pakuri as the region our settlement was known, batted first and made 87/2 from eight overs before restricting their opponents from Region Six to 71/4 from their allotment of eight overs.

Laluni of Region Four will play Moraiokobai of Region Five in the other semi-final. Moraiokobai seled their demo-final spot with a nine wicket trashing of Region One in a one sided match. Region One batted first and were limited to 45/4 from eight overs while their region five counterparts raced home with nine wickets in the bag after reaching 46/2 from 6.1 overs. Laluni drew the bye to the next round after Wiruni Warriors of Region 10 failed to show up for their fixture.

In the male category, Santa Aratak male team did not fear so well as they went down to Madhia of Region Eight by 10 wickets. Madhia joins Matakai of Port Kaituma Region One and Laluni in the next stage. Pork Kaituma (PK) defeated St Cuthbert’s by the narrowest margin of one wicket with three balls to spare. St Cuthbert’s made 51/5 to which PK struggled to 52/9 from 7.3 overs.

Laluni beat Orealla/Spiaruta by 47 runs after posting an imposing 103/3 from eight overs. Orealla/Spiaruta, more known for their football skills were then limited to 56/6 to make a good account of themselves.

Meanwhile, Georgetown Indigenous Female team has been disqualified for fielding ineligible players in their game on day one against Mabaruma. In that regard, Mabaruma (Region 1) has been awarded the game and will meet Culvert City of Central Rupununi (Region 9) in semi-final one while North Rupununi will meet Paruima (Region 7) in semi-final two to be played from 08:30h today.

The volleyball champions will be crowned later this afternoon after teams from across the regions were in the preliminaries on day two.

Archery made it’s official debut at Heritage Games and will have the finals from 15:00 also on day three today also at Everest.
