The decomposed body of an unidentified East Indian male was on Monday morning discovered in a trench at Patentia, West Bank Demerara (WBD), with a black plastic bag wrapped around his head.

Reports are that around 09:45h on the day in question, passersby noticed the man’s body in the trench and immediately raised an alarm.
The man’s face was reportedly swollen, making it difficult for residents to identify him.
D Division Commander, Senior Superintendent Linden Lord told Guyana Times that although investigations are underway, the police need the assistance of the public in identifying the man.
“The police at the Wales and Leonora Police Stations would have received some information from an unknown caller saying that there was a body in a drain at First Street, Patentia. As a result, Police responded and saw this male lying face upwards in the drain with his head covered with a black plastic bag. The body was dressed in a short, three-quarter hard pants, without any top.

He noted that the man’s chest area, which was exposed, had been covered with blisters and that this could mean that the body had been there for a while before the discovery was made.
“At this time we cannot say if there was any foul play until the post-mortem on Wednesday which will advise us on the way forward. Now I am appealing to members, especially in the Patentia area, that if they have any information or any knowledge about the missing person they can come to the police at Leonora or go to La Grange or Wales [police stations]. The police would have that person escorted to the mortuary so that they could get a look at the body to see if the body concerns any one of them,” the Police Commander stated.
