At this time, the details remain sketchy, but based on reports received, his body was discovered about 07:30h by colleagues.
Ifill represented Guyana in 2014 at the CBC Championships in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), where he teamed up with former Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers guard Rawle Marshall to guide Guyana to a fifth-place finish.
In that tournament, Ifill finished with an average of 12.2 points, six rebounds and 1.6 assist per game. He was the team’s second highest scorer behind Marshall.
Ifill, who played locally with Bounty Colts, wowed his fans with his basketball skills. Based on reports received, Ifill and his family moved to the twin-island republic to take up residency. The Maloney Pacers Basketball Club are the first team that the famed Guyanese ‘baller’ represented after he migrated to Trinidad.
Police are continuing their investigations.
Trinidad and Tobago Basketball Coach Gordon Felix called the 40-year-old Guyanese “one of the best ever” to represent his club.
In a message to club members on Tuesday, Felix said: “we, the members of the Maloney Pacers Basketball Club and Youth Development Program pay special respect to this great Guyanese and Caribbean basketball player, who brought joy to Maloney Gardens, then later represented Detour Shak Attack and Royal Extra Lions.”
He stated that Ifill was the first of many Guyanese to have played for the Maloney Pacers Club with distinguished authority.
