Defending cycling champs hold 1-point lead

MoE/GTU 56th National Schools Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships…

Following the conclusion of the first day of cycling, defending champions District six (Corentyne) are currently the holder of a one point lead ahead of District 10 (Upper Demerara/Kwakwani) in the 56th Ministry of Education, Guyana Teachers’ Union National Schools Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships held on Monday.
The races which were competed on the inner circuit of the National Park, Thomas Lands welcomed stern competition from a wide array of talented youngsters from across the country with one goal in mind, helping their team win.

At the conclusion of the day, District Six, who boost a number of familiar names in the cycling arena held a paper-thin margin lead with 269 points.
District 6 brought out their big guns in the likes of the Hicks brothers, Whitney Poyer, Balram Narine, Ralph Seenarine, Shenika Teixeira, Cortis Dey, Deancae Welch and Delicia Sarmento while District 10’s powerhouses, Jornel Yearwood, B’Yonka Barker and Denzil Huntley were all up to the task.
Results of the day were as follows: Jerome Stephen of District 13 (Boys Under-16 800m), Poyer (800m Girls U-16) Esau Lowden of District 10 (800m Boys U-14) Thersea Spencer District 10 (800m Girls U-14) Balram Narine District Six (800m Boys Open), Ralph Seenarine of District Six (3000m Boys U-16), David Hicks of District Six (3000m Boys U-14), Jornel Yearwood of District 10 (3000m Boys Open) Cyanna Retemiah of District Three (1000m Girls U-14), Kevin Reddy of District Seven (1000m Boys U-14), Jerome Stephen of District 13 (1000m Boys U-16), Kendra Dunn of District Six (1000m Girls U-16 and 2000m Girls U-16), Nyanza Poyer of District Six (1000m Girls U-14 and 2000m Girls U-14), Omari Walcott of District Four (1000m Boys U-14), Kevin Monah of District 10 (1500m Boys U-16), Shenika Teixeira of District Six (1500m Girls Open, 2000m Girls Open and 3000m Girls Open), Andrew Hicks of District Six (1500m Boys Open and 2000m Boys Open), Deancae Welch of District Six (400m Girls Open and 1000m Girls Open), David Hicks of District Six (2000m Boys U-14), Denzil Huntley of District 10 (2000m Boys U-16) and Delicia Sarmento of District Six (800m Girls Open). The deciding factor will be an intense road race; a 40KM Boys open and 25KM girls Open on Friday.
