Joanne Deo returned to the greens of the Lusignan Golf Club after a brief lay-off and immediately showed her class. The aspiring dentist took centre stage to win the Maersk Sealand Golf Tournament last Saturday at the Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
Playing off a 21 handicap Deo shot a gross 86 for a net 65. Second place went to Azrudeen Shaw (18) who also shot 86 net 68 easing out Robert Hanoman’s 96 net 68 (handicap 28). As was the case in the previous week, short rough made it another good day for the high handicappers who were not penalised greatly for wayward shots.
Best Gross went to Patrick Prashad with a 79 and nearest to the pin to Bholaram Deo.
In comments at the presentation ceremony Maersk Sealand’s Country Manager Derek Stoby said the shipping line was happy to sponsor the tournament as part of the company’s belief that sport should be part of a well-balanced and healthy life style. As such he assured members this would be an annual event.
