Deputy Town Clerk to focus on Linden’s development

One week after being appointed Deputy Town Clerk of the Linden Mayor and Town Council (LM&TC), Orleena Obermuller, 25, has already set her eyes on assisting the community’s youths via job creation.

In addition, Obermuller intends to focus on the branding and promotion of the community in an effort to attract people from all walks of life.

She made her intentions known during an interview with Guyana Times on Monday, where she also announced her plans to foster a better relationship between the Mayor’s office and the staff within the municipality.

The Deputy Town Clerk explained: “We want to look at creating employment for youths, because that’s a challenge. We’re trying to collaborate with youth groups whereby we can promote programmes where we can make youths entrepreneurs instead of just waiting on a job opportunity. To give them some sort of knowledge whereby they can see and believe that they can become job creators and not job seekers.”

While she acknowledged that there is much to learn, she assured of her commitment to fostering development and to boosting the municipality’s economic standing: “We have to look at ways whereby we can bring in income into the Council and not just focusing on rates and taxes but other avenues that we could bring income to Linden as a whole. We can never get back the Linden that we had before, but we can collaborate and bring what we had and where we want to go and get somewhere.”

She also expressed the hope that much would be improved over the next five years, particularly with an improved system for rates and taxes.

“I would try my utmost best, put my best foot forward so that we could develop Linden on behalf of the Council,” Obermuller said.

The newly appointed Deputy Town Clerk holds a Degree in Economics. She is a former student of the Linden Foundation and the Christiansburg Wismar Secondary Schools.

Obermuller’s appointment as Deputy Town Clerk comes a month after Town Clerk Jonellor Bowen was sent on administrative leave pending investigations into alleged misconduct within the Council.

Meanwhile, Linden Mayor Carwyn Holland reminded that Bowen remains the substantive Town Clerk, while Municipal Treasurer Audrey Nelson performs duties as Acting Town Clerk.
