Michael Haynes, 38, of Fifth Street, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), on Tuesday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he was arraigned with narcotics trafficking.
Haynes appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and denied the charge which stated that on November 29, 2019, at Diamond Housing Scheme, he had in his possession 44.2 kilograms (over 88lbs) of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss told the court that on the day in question, ranks went to the defendant’s home and conducted a search during which the large quantity of marijuana was unearthed in his bedroom.
The court heard that a further search was conducted on a plastic barrel and another quantity of the illegal plant was discovered.
The defendant was then told of the offence and admitted ownership of the narcotics during a video recording. Haynes was remanded to prison until December 9, 2019.
