Diamond resident nabbed with counterfeit money

A 23-year-old Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara resident was nabbed with a quantity of counterfeit $5000 notes in the vicinity of Stabroek, Georgetown.

Based on reports received, Police acting on intelligence went to the Stabroek Market where they apprehended Alston Pires with the fake currency.
He was taken to the Brickdam Police Station where he was charged and is expected to make his court appearance today at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. In addition, 18-year-old Akelo Nurse of Independence Boulevard, Georgetown, was arrested in Charlestown, Georgetown with an unlicensed pistol.

The police, in a release, stated that cops were conducting a mobile patrol in the area when the young man was seen acting in a suspicious manner and as such, the ranks conducted a search on his person during which the weapon was unearthed.
There was no ammunition at the time of the discovery. Nurse is also expected to make his court appearance today.
