The Finance Minister has published a statement lambasting the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government of excesses when it comes to salary increases for its parliamentarians when in office. He went about it with gusto followed by his Prime Minister who further labelled it as unconscionable and disgraceful. But did these too gentlemen ever stop to look at the meaning of these words “unconscionable” and “disgraceful” because if they did they would come to the stark reality that they are speaking of themselves.
Could anyone in their wildest imagination look at a period 1998-2014 when the PPP/C made an attempt at raising its salaries and compare that to a mere three months of the coalition taking office and compare the two? That is why I am still dumbfounded at the asinine statements of the Finance and Prime Ministers.
How could you compare the two? It simply defies intelligence! And may I reveal to my readers that salary and emolument increases were to have been 100 per cent, it was only after the Opposition’s vigorous attack and public outcry to the increases that it was reluctantly dropped to 50 per cent. So, I cannot fathom their silly excuses in vainly trying to justify their rape of the public purse when their position in the eyes of all right thinking people is hopeless. It is a situation of a hopeless government steering the ship of a hapless economy.
I am equally appalled by these people when you view the statement of the Prime Minister when he was in Opposition. It was Nagamootoo’s quote that “the PPP/C were living the Cadillac Life Style in a Donkey Cart Economy” meaning that the PPP/C was living above their means. What gumption in the Prime Minister to ever speak on salary increase matters! What nerve!
He simply forgot that he made those statements. Nagamootoo of all persons lack the moral fortitude to ever speak on such matters. I am sure there is not a moral fibre left in him to make such utterances.
But it all goes to show how immoral and disgraceful they are to openly live the good life.
