Dindyal flatten Wellman en-route to final

– Regal Masters make light work of HS Masters

RR Masters all-rounder, Khemchand Dindyal played the match of his life to knock out Mike’s Wellman of the Ink Plus, Crown Mining Enterprise, Elegance Jewellery and Pawn Shop Tournament when the semifinals were played last Sunday at Everest.

RR Masters have done well to set up a final clash with Regal Masters

Playing in the second semifinal, the talented player’s first impact in the match came with the ball where he picked up 2/25 from his quota of four overs to combine with veteran Dharam Persaud (2/36) to restrict Wellman to 156-6 from their 20 overs in absolutely gorgeous conditions for cricket.
For the more fancied Wellman Masters, elegant left-hand batsman, Wayne Jones stabilized the innings with an attractive 44 (3×4; 1×6) while Latchman Kallicharran contributed 25 (2×4; 1×6) and Nandram Samlall weighed in with a workman-like unbeaten 30 (1×4) which proved insufficient when Dindyal went to work.
The right handed batsman carried his bat for 81 not out hitting seven fours and a big six that sent his former team crashing out of the championship race. Surojlall “Flintoff” Kumar supported with an excellent cameo of 38 with three sixes and a solitary four that saw RR Masters overhauling the target to finish on 160-4 in 18.2 overs to win by six wickets with 10 balls to spare.
Sheldon Perch picked up 2/30 while Latchman Kallicharran and Lester Thom had one wicket each for Mike’s Wellman who were badly let down by their fielders.
In the opening semifinal, the well-oiled Regal masters unit continued their dominance in the over-40 category with a 16-run victory over rivals HS Masters.
Opting to bat first, Regal Masters were never allowed to score freely as the boundaries were not coming but still managed to finish on a challenging 148-7 total from their 20 overs due to purposeful batting including running between the wickets.
Eric Thomas top scored with 30 (2×4; 2×6) with support from Fazleen Mohamed 25 (2×4) and Mohendra Arjune 20 (1×4) as the spirited HS Masters bowlers tried their best to deliver the knockout punch.
Sudesh Ramdeen with 2/20 (2 overs) and Samuel Kingston 2/31 (4) were the pick of the bowlers who then played their hearts out with the bat.
HS Masters were on course for another upset with Kingston and Ramdeen in top flight bringing up the 100 in 15 overs before the men in green and yellow took control. After Kingston was dismissed for 47 (4×4; 2×6) the run rate dropped significantly and when Ramdeen followed for 54 (2×4; 2×6) he took his team’s chances with him.
They eventually stuttered to 132 for 4 falling short by 16 runs after David Harper with 2/21, Saheed Mohamed 2/25 and Roy Persaud 1/15 bowled the important death overs.
The tournament which is organized by the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc (GSCL) will conclude on Sunday September 9 at Everest with heavy weights Regal Masters being challenged by giant killers RR Masters with live commentary and musical entertainment provided.
The first ball will be 1t 10:00h.
