Dindyal ton in vain as Guyana lose to B’dos

CWI Regional U-15 championships…

The Guyana U-15 Team failed to replicate their winning performance in the first round of the CWI Regional U-15 tournament, and instead suffered a 95-run defeat against defending champions Barbados at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
Played on Sunday last, that match saw Barbados winning the toss and scoring 332-7 in 50 overs. In reply, West Indies U-16 batsman Mavindra Dindyal led the charge with a brilliant 126, which proved insufficient, as Guyana managed 237-8 in 50 overs.
Earlier, Barbados reached 332 on the back of Kamario Grant’s 89 and Joshua Morris’s 72. Bowling for Guyana, fast bowler Isai Thorne had 2-66, while off-spinner Alvin Mohabir had 3-52.
In pursuit of Barbados’s 333, Guyana lost Anthony Khan (16) and Rampertab Ramnauth (08), who were out via the run-out route. In came Mavindra Dindyal at number three, and scored 126 from 120 balls batting for 137 minutes. He struck 17 fours and one six in his top innings.
Alvin Mohabir scored 31 as Guyana came up short by 95 runs, finishing on 237-8 when the 50 overs expired. Guyana will play Windward Islands on April 16 in their third round fixture.
