Dominant displays mark the fourth day of Schools’ Basketball Festival

The fourth day of competition at the 19th KFC National Schools Basketball Festival on Tuesday, July 1, featured commanding performances, standout individual displays, and exciting action across the Under-14 and Under-18 divisions as teams continued their quest for championship glory.
In the Under-14 category, Skeldon Line Path cruised to a convincing 45-4 victory over School of the Nations. Kellon Lyte led the charge with an impressive 16 points and five rebounds, while Eshmael Coodluck added 12 points and six rebounds. Araf Wazidally also delivered an outstanding all-round performance with 10 points and eight rebounds to help secure the dominant win.
Kwakwani Secondary produced another commanding display, defeating YBG Academy 41-6 behind an explosive offensive performance from Trayon Hopkinson, who poured in 22 points. Kwayson Bethune provided valuable support with 16 points as Kwakwani comfortably advanced.

Action in the KFC National Schools Basketball Festival

The day’s closest Under-14 contest saw Hururu Secondary overcome JC Chandisingh Secondary 32-25. Crandon Beckles spearheaded Hururu’s victory with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Marvelon Forde contributed eight points and three steals, and Josiah Archer chipped in seven points. For JC Chandisingh, Romario Munroe finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Luan Campbell added nine points in a spirited effort.
The Under-18 division also featured several one-sided encounters, beginning with another dominant performance from Kwakwani Secondary, which overwhelmed YBG Academy 68-10. Simeon Sinclair and Marlon Mendonca were virtually unstoppable, each scoring 26 points while grabbing five rebounds apiece. Despite the loss, YBG’s Joshua Reid battled hard to record six points and 10 rebounds.
St Rose’s High School secured a 31-23 victory over Covent Garden Secondary, led by Chazaiah Bernard’s outstanding performance of 19 points and nine rebounds. Malachi Atwell added six points, while Covent Garden received seven points each from Aron Cooper, who also collected four rebounds, and Donnie Copp.
Queen’s College enjoyed a comfortable 41-11 triumph over West Demerara Secondary with balanced scoring throughout the line-up. Nathan Morris led the way with 10 points, Darren Dublin contributed nine points and four rebounds, while Jaren Boucher finished with seven points and four rebounds. West Demerara’s Yohan George scored six points in defeat.
The final game of the day saw St Ignatius Secondary defeat Region Two Schools 25-11. Anson Heyliger recorded an impressive double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Lorenzo George also scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds to seal the victory.
