Home News Dominican trio on bail for fraud, overstaying
Three Dominican women were on Monday granted bail when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with fraud and overstaying in Guyana.
Serbit Diaz, Cynthia Delaroza and Stephanie Herria all pleaded not guilty to the charges, which read that between March 21, 2016 and December 15, 2016, at Georgetown and with intent to defraud, they conspired with others to forge one Guyana immigration arrival service and departure stamp, which was inserted on page 10 of a Republic of Dominica Passport, purporting to show that same was issued by the Central and Immigration Passport Office, knowing same to be false.
The second charge against them stated that between October 12, 2016 and November 11, 2016, they failed to comply with conditions subject to which any permit would have been granted to stay in Guyana, overstaying the permitted period.
The prosecution objected to bail, stating that the defendants would not return to Court.
However, their Attorney successfully requested bail on the grounds that his clients entered Guyana legally. Bail was granted in the sum of $40,000 each, and the defendants were scheduled to reappear on December 28.
