Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips on Wednesday night welcomed the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, on his arrival in Guyana at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
Prime Minister Phillips was joined at the airport by the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Hugh Todd, and the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Guyana, Ernesto Torres Pereyra.
President Abinader is in Guyana for a two-day visit. During his visit he is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with Presi
dent Dr Irfaan Ali and other members of the government. A number of bilateral meetings and the signing of cooperation agreements with President Ali have been planned.
“The overall aim is to strengthen relations and expand cooperation between Guyana and the Dominican Republic,” a social media post from the PM said.
Relations between the Dominican Republic and Guyana have become closer in recent years, especially as both countries see opportunities in trade, energy, food production, and regional cooperation.
