Home Sports Dragon Stout ‘Community Cup’ Championship launches today
It has been revealed by Dragon Stout Brand Coordinator Jamal Baird, via an official media statement, that the Dragon Stout “Community Cup” Championship tournament is being launched today.
According to that statement, “The event was initially rescheduled from its November start due to logistical reasons, but will now commence with even more anticipation, excitement and vigour. The complete tournament details, inclusive of the tournament fixtures and rules, will be revealed at the launch, which is expected to feature team representatives and the Director of Sport, who has given his blessing to the championship.”
The release added, “The teams have been selected from various environs and several regions, (and selection) provides a national flavour and true representation of the growing street-ball culture. It is the start of an exciting project which has the capacity to become a staple of the local street-ball and community landscape, and attract a mass following.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for the brand to establish and foster a relationship with the respective communities through the common denominator of sport.”
Baird’s release also stated, “Presently, systems and structures are being fine-tuned to ensure a memorable event that will leave a lasting impression in the minds of the spectators and, more importantly, the players. There is a buzz within the respective communities about the tournament, which bodes well for its success, as players are excited to compete. I am excited for the tournament and the festivities to commence.”
This three-day knockout event will kick off on December 17th at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, venue for the tournament’s duration. The other playing dates are December 19th and December 28th, with the latter night slated to stage both the semi-final and grand finale.
Confirmed to participate are the following notable giants and perennial contenders: Gold is Money, Back Circle, Sparta Boss, Bent St, North East La Penitence, Rio All-Stars, Albouystown, Leopold St, Broad St, Sophia, Alexander Village, Future Stars, Festival City, ANSA McAL All-Stars, Showstoppers and Mocha.
