Driver charged for causing death of Bartica Overseer
Twenty-three-year-old Saliem Khan who allegedly drove his motor car, PLL 3322, on December 27, 2016 in a dangerous manner thereby causing the death of Bartica Overseer Mark Dutchin was on Tuesday arraigned with a causing death charge when he appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
Khan stood before Magistrate Christel Lambert and denied the allegation when it was put to him.
As such, he was granted $200,000 bail and was expected to next appear in court on January 10, 2018 when a trial date is to be set.
According to reports received, Khan was proceeding east along the northern side of the Bartica road reportedly at a fast pace when he struck the 65-year-old Dutchin who, according to the driver, walked into his driving lane.
Dutchin was reportedly thrown onto the front left window of the vehicle and was further thrown some distance away onto the northern side of the road.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited persons and taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
