A 34-year-old man who was involved in a hit-and-run accident along the Williamsburg Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, leaving a motorcyclist seriously injured, has been arrested.

The accident reportedly took place on April 11, 2026, as 35-year-old Mukesh Mathur was riding along the roadway.
Police reported that a white motor car, which was traveling in the opposite direction to the motorcyclist, suddenly turned right into his path, resulting in a collision.
Mathur was reportedly thrown from his motorcycle and sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured arm and leg. He was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for additional medical treatment.
After committing the act, the driver of the car fled the scene.
Nevertheless, acting on information received, the police traveled to Chesney Housing Scheme on Monday, where they arrested Bhoadnaline Lackan, who is believed to have been behind the wheel of the vehicle involved in the collision.
Upon his arrest, he admitted to causing the accident and, moreover, went into hiding. The motor car was impounded, but from all indications, the damage had already been repaired. The driver remains in custody pending further investigations and charges.
Meanwhile, the victim remains hospitalised.
