The Chief Magistrate ordered Amsterdam to pay a fine of $100, 000 or serve a default sentence of eight months’ imprisonment.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that on the day in question, Amsterdam was at a bar when he snatched the items from the bartender, that is the VC, after which he escaped.
The matter was reported to the Bartica Police Station leading to the arrest of Amsterdam at Itaballi landing, as he was proceeding to Parika. A search carried out on the person of Amsterdam led to the discovery of the stolen articles in his possession.
The accused in his address to the court attested that the VC left the items on a counter at the bar, and he picked up the articles with the intention of selling them. Amsterdam apologised to the Magistrate for his actions, reiterating that he was drunk at the time of the incident.
