A motorcyclist, who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, was arrested shortly after he had a scuffle with a Police officer, during which the cop’s cell phone got damaged and the Guyana Police Force’s Intoxilyzer was misplaced.
The incident occurred sometime around 19:45h on the Hague Back Access Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
According to Police reports, while on an accident scene at Hague Back Access Road, Police ranks stopped motorcycle CE 4009 and conducted a breath test on him. At that time, he was found to be above the prescribed limit of alcohol consumption.
The motorcyclist, Gildharie Rupnarine, then resist arrest thus resulting in a scuffle. He reportedly started to hit the Police Constable, causing the cop’s cellphone and the Intoxilyzer instrument to fall overboard.
The Intoxilyzer is the instrument used to conduct breathalyser tests.
A search was conducted but only the damaged cell phone was recovered. The driver was placed into custody at Leonora Police Station as investigations continue.
