A large crowd is expected to be on hand at the Number 72 Cut& Load ground on Sunday to witness the proceedings as the vibrant Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) hosts this game.
Both teams are brimming with confidence going into the finale; as, of the 24 clubs that had participated in this tournament, it had all boiled down to four ‘hot teams’ fighting for opportunity to participate in this grand finale. Dukestown had then defeated No. 64 Fighting Marines by 71 runs at the Scottsburg Ground, while No. 72 All Stars had also crushed No. 70 Spartans by 9 wickets at the No. 72 Cut and Load ground. Thus each surviving team is confident of emerging victorious in this match-up.
At the Scottsburg Ground, Dukestown, batting first, had amassed 141 for 7 off their 100 Balls. Errol Byass had top-scored with 38, while C. Beresford had scored 26 and J. Byass 24 in offering support.
Shiraz Khan, Ramzan Subhan, Charles France, Davendra Budhoo and Leonard Sandy had each taken a wicket for No. 64 Fighting Marines.
In response, No. 64 Fighting Marines had been bowled out for 70, with only Ramzan Subhan’s 16 and Charles France’s 16 making it to double figures.
Wayne Garnett’s 3 for 18, Errol Byass’s 3 for 7, Jermaine Reid’s 2 for 8 and Vandam Narine’s 2 for 17 were what had wreaked havoc on the Fighting Marines.
At the Cut and Load Ground, No. 70 Spartans had been bowled out for 122, with T. Rangaram scoring 24, T. Ramoutar 25, A. Persaud 39 and S. Wazar 18 as the principal scorers. Number 72 All Stars’ T. Baichan was the successful bowler with 4 for 17.
Ryan Ramdass had then ravaged the hapless No.70 Spartans’ bowling attack to score a brutal 103, which included eight boundaries and eleven massive sixes, to lead his team to 124 for 1 from 9.4 overs. P. Chatterpaul had been rendered a mere spectator to Ramdass’s assault, and had been left on 11 not out.
N. Yacoob had taken one wicket for 43 runs.
In the Quarterfinals, No. 72 All Stars had squeezed past No. 72 Cut and Load by 12 runs, while Dukestown had defeated arch-rivals Skeldon Titans by 8 wickets at the No. 69 Red Rose Ground.
Skeldon Titans had been bowled out for 87, with Anthony Seerah’s 25 and Duane Edwards’s 14 being the most respectable scores. Dukestown had then blasted 89 runs for the loss of 2 wickets from 14.4 overs, with Clavern Beresford scoring 73 not out.
At the Cut and Load Ground, No. 72 All Stars had made 111 for 7, with A. Hemchand scoring 34 and M. Bhoj 22.
D. Chatterpaul, with 2 for 15, was the best bowler for the home team, who in reply were bowled out for 99 from 16 overs.
A. Ajib with 23 and D. Chatterpaul with 24 had top- scored in a losing cause. S. Singh had taken 3 for 15 and A. Hemchand 3 for 19 as they had bowled well to lead All Stars into the semifinals.
