Duncans win big in maiden Heritage Games archery competition

The curtain came down on the Indigenous Heritage Games in the wee hours of Monday morning,

September 19, 2016 after the final football match between Mabaruma and Tabatinga at the Everest Cricket Club Ground.

For the first time at Heritage Games, competition archery was done and the top three finishers in Men’s, Women’s and Under-18 categories were awarded for their efforts.

In the Men’s Category, Sean Duncan came out on top with 57 points followed by Anand Mangra with 54 points while Eric Hing came in a distant third with 30 points. Samira Duncan with 27 points won the Women’s category while Shearlyn Duncan with 20 points narrowly beat Narda Mohamed (18) points for second place while Aliyah Gordon won the Juniors’ title with 11 points followed by Shamara Duncan on seven and Garville Daniels of Annai on three points

Minister within the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs, Valerie Garrido-Lowe was present at the closing ceremony while the presentation of trophies for the winners was done by the Guyana Sport Shooting Federation (GSSF) Archery Guyana Chairman Nicholas Hing.

The Finals was deemed a success as the Finalists competing were required to shoot two ends of six arrows, totaling 12 arrows from 20 metres.

At the close of the Finals, the Honourable Minister George Norton demonstrated his skill to the crowd after a brief tutorial from Nicholas Hing, Chairman of the Archery Committee.

Archery, after a successful debut to Heritage Games we can safely say is here to stay.
