Duo freed of unlicenced firearm charge

Jason Augustine and Mark Bobb-Semple

Two men, who were charged for possession of an illegal firearm, were freed of the offence on Thursday by Principle Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Twenty-year-old Jason Augustine and 24-year-old Mark Bobb-Semple had pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on October 12, 2018, at Croal Street, Georgetown, they had in their possession one black and silver .9mm pistol without being holders of a firearm licence.
At the conclusion of the trial, the Magistrate ruled that sufficient evidence was presented to the court by the prosecution and as such, dismissed the matter.
It was reported that on the day in question, Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks, acting on information, intercepted motorcar PNN 5156, which at the time was driven by Bobb-Semple with Augustine in the passenger seat.
A search was conducted and the weapon was found in the backseat of the car. Both men were out on bail pending the hearing and determination of the trial.
