Two men were jointly charged and remanded to prison on Thursday morning when they appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts following a recent drug bust at Tucville, Georgetown.
Dexter Mannings, of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown and Jason Norton, of Sophia, Greater Georgetown, both aged 40, were allegedly involved in the unlawful trafficking of 884 grams of cannabis on April 10, 2017.
Their defence counsel told the Magistrate that his clients were occupants in the car where the marijuana was found. As such, he argued that the illicit drug could not be linked to them as they were mere passengers in the motor vehicle, which reportedly belonged to an associate of theirs, and who, for some reason, was not before the court.
The court heard that Norton had a medical condition and was discharged from the hospital just a few days prior to his arrest. His Attorney, on these grounds, requested reasonable bail for him.
However, bail was refused for both men. The men are expected to return to court on June 3, 2017 and they will remain incarcerated until then.
