Two men who were recently intercepted and arrested by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) with some 27 kilograms of cocaine concealed in a boat’s bow were arraigned at the Wales Magistrate’s Court.
Latchman Sankar, aka “Jack”
Thirty-five-year-old Latchman Sankar, known as “Jack”, and 47-year-old Muneshwar Dusrajh, known as “Bonny”, denied the charge when they appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert on Wednesday.
Particulars of the charge stated that on February 22, 2020, at Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), they had in their possession 27.866 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The men’s legal counsel, Attorney Siand Dhurjon, told the court during a bail application that the men had no knowledge of the narcotics.
CANU Prosecutor Konyo Sandiford objected to bail being granted to the men on the grounds of the quantity of the drug and the penalty the offence attracts.
Based on information, the CANU ranks intercepted a fibre-glass vessel at the Parika Backdam on Saturday.

Upon inspection of the darkly-painted vessel, 25 parcels of cocaine were found stashed inside the bow.
The illegal substance amounted to a total of 27.866 kg.
Sankar and Dusrajh were immediately arrested following the search of the “Go-fast” vessel.
The men were remanded and were slated to return to court on March 13, 2020.
Meanwhile, CANU is on the hunt for a third suspect, Ryan Pemberton, commonly called “Sancho” of Alberttown, Georgetown. He reportedly threatened to kill the CANU ranks after the bust on Saturday.
