Dynamic FC optimistic after defeating Potaro Strikers

For the Dynamic Football Club, which hails from the Demerara East Coast, the KFC Under 20 ‘Independence Cup’ tournament has been a great avenue to not only give their players positive exposure, but also to provide a way to test their skills against other clubs from their immediate surroundings, and now clubs from around the country.
Fairly new to this tournament, Dynamic FC had been beset by uncertainty regarding whether or not they would perform well. However, this fresh-faced team shocked many in the East Coast area when they finished as runners-up in the East Demerara FA intra- association phase of the KFC tournament.
Not exactly getting the results they were hoping for, Dynamic FC went down 3-0 to Buxton United FC team in the final, after goals were scored by Troni Semple (19), Omari Glasgow (72) and Jamar Harrigon (80).
Despite the loss, the team was granted passage into the National playoffs, and have so far made the best of the opportunity. In their Round of 16 encounter on Saturday, Dynamic FC mowed down Potaro Strikers with a 5-0 win.
During the team’s outstanding performance, John Gonsalves led the way with a brace; and Julius Hamilton, Dequan Douglas and Linden Bowman each netted one for the win.
Guyana Times Sport caught up with Coach Dwayne Jacobs, who said he was pleased with the squad’s performance, but noted it was not perfect.
“I think width was lacking a little bit today, and for the new week, we have to work on that and proper crossing,” Jacobs said in assessing their few errors.
Touching on what worked for the boys from the East Coast, Jacobs, disclosed that he has been placing emphasis on their defense, which turned out to be a strong point for them.
“First of all, we try to work specifically on defending and team organisation. I find a lot came out in this game: the defense was solid, and their organisation was great,” he explained.
The synthetic surface of the National Training Center is not one that the team is accustomed to (after just a handful of games being played there), but the team’s coach is positive that the team is going to adjust itself with time.
“It was real challenging today because of the weather, and we aren’t accustomed to playing on a surface like this. You could see the players running and tripping up and all these things.” He said.
Looking forward to Saturday’s quarterfinal encounter, Jacobs told this publication he is confident in his team members’ abilities, and is positive they would “put their best foot forward”.
“We’re going to take some time, but gradually, coming out here, we will get into it,” Jacobs said.
Dynamic FC will be joined by Fruta Conquerors, Botofago FC, Santos FC, New Amsterdam United, Buxton United, Timehri Panthers and Rupununi FC in the quarterfinal round this weekend.
