E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) Police on Saturday destroyed a marijuana camp at 19 Miles, Millie’s Hideout as lawmen continued a nonstop drug eradication exercise at Upper Demerara River.
Ranks swooped down on the location, where they unearthed two large bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems of cannabis.
The drug was later weighed and amounted to 12.7 kilogram (28 lbs). Some 10 feet away, a quantity of clothing and food items were discovered; however, no one was found at the location.
Over the past few weeks, Police in the Division have destroyed several illegal marijuana fields and camps.
Two weeks ago, at 10 Miles, Millie’s Hideout, ranks discovered several fields totalling nine acres which contained 9000 cannabis plants, ranging from two feet to eight feet in height. They also discovered 300 kilos of dried cannabis and two nurseries containing 6500 seedlings. Seven camps containing groceries, kitchen utensils, clothing, bed, hammocks and foodstuff were also discovered. The fields were reportedly cut down and burnt. No one was discovered inside the camps.
Also, recently at 8 Miles, Millie’s Hideout, several acres of marijuana had destroyed. This included a two-acre farm containing approximately 2500 cannabis plants which measured one to four feet in height and were estimated to weigh approximately 675 kg. A nursery containing some 3000 marijuana plants was also destroyed along with four makeshift camps with two hammocks, a mattress. and a quantity of kitchen utensils and groceries. Additionally, a quantity of dried cannabis, estimated to weigh about 200 kg was destroyed. Approximately seven miles away from the location, another one-and-a-half-acre marijuana farm with about 1500 cannabis plants was destroyed. The plants measured between two and five feet in height and weighed an estimated 225 kg. Also destroyed was another nursery with approximately 1500 marijuana plants, along with a makeshift camp which contained dried cannabis estimated to weigh about 100 kg.
