Eagles hunting win against Young Achievers

Sara Lodge based Eagles FC will today be looking for a win against Young Achievers in the feature match of the STAG West Demerara Football Association (WDFDA) Derrick Josiah Knockout Football tournament which kicks-off at the Den Amstel Community Centre Ground at 19:00 hrs.

Coach of the youthful line up Keron Schmidt in speaking with Guyana Times Sport expressed his confidence in a win and is looking forward to showcase his players to another tournament.

‘Our players are now knitting as a unit and we will be taking each match to our opponents since we have evaluated ourselves and our objective is to win this tournament”, Schmidt added.

With the likes of Daniel Clarke, Orette Stephenson, Orlando Henry, Colin Williams, Stephon Bentick and Chris Macey, Schmidt is excited that the other members of the starting team will gel to create a complete unit.

Young achievers on the other hand will not leave any stone unturned as they too will be entering the field looking for a win.

The composition of the likes of Julius Chilchott, Deon Terrence, Adio Wright, Hakeem Scott, Stephon Jupiter and Marvin Josiah the others will joint to capture Eagles who has been flying high in previous tournaments.

The supporting matches will feature an exhibition game involving a West Demerara Police lineup making their first appearance when they face Jetty Gunners FC.

This will follow with Den Amstel coming up against Stewartville in the opener of the tournament. This tournament is held in honor of the late Assistant Commissioner of Police Derrick Josiah who was a footballer, administrator of the game and an ardent patron to the WDFA.

The Divisional Commander, senior officers and other ranks is expected to be present at the event.

The tournament will see the winners receiving $200,000 while second to fourth will receive $100,000, $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.
