East Bank tournament united communities, says Wilson

After the conclusion of the highly anticipated East Bank Inter-Village Football Tournament, organiser Franklin Wilson noted that the true success of the championship was not measured solely by goals scored or prize money handed out; it was measured by community pride.
As the curtains came down on the inaugural competition Saturday evening, Wilson reflected on what he believes was one of the tournament’s biggest achievements: bringing villages together through sport.
“This football tournament was a resounding success,” Wilson said.
From the opening whistle to the championship match, the tournament became a rallying point for communities, with supporters passionately backing their teams and creating an atmosphere rarely seen in grassroots football.
Villages arrived in numbers, cheering every tackle, every goal, and every dramatic moment.
Wilson said that sense of ownership and excitement were central to the vision behind the tournament.
“We wanted communities to feel connected to something positive, and football gave us that opportunity,” he explained.
The event also provided a valuable platform for emerging players to showcase their ability in a competitive setting.
Several players seized the spotlight during the tournament, reinforcing the depth of football talent that exists outside the traditional club structure.
Wilson believes the response from both players and fans sends a strong message that community football remains alive and relevant.
“The support tells you people want this. Football can still bring communities together,” he added.
