EBD man on $1M bail for dangerous driving

Ramanand Jagdeo, 44, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was on Friday released on $1 million bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for the offence of causing death by dangerous driving.
Jagdeo denied that on February 22, 2018, at Peters Hall Public Road, EBD, he drove motor car PRR 4395 in a dangerous manner which resulted in the death of Alexander Akia.
According to reports on the day in question, Jagdeo was speeding along the Peters Hall Public Road when he collided with the pedal cyclist.
As a result of the impact, Akia’s leg was severed from his body. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed while receiving medical attention.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore made no objections to bail by the defence attorney. The matter was adjourned until June 19.
