A resident of Ixora Avenue, Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) who has been held on a drug trafficking charge has been remanded to prison by a magistrate.
Andrew Morgan, 52, was refused bail by Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate Sunil Scarce, before whom he appeared on Wednesday and denied a charge which stated that on June 27, at his home, he had 3.278 kilogrammes of cocaine in his possession for trafficking.
Morgan has been remanded, and the case will continue on August 4.
On June 27, Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks acting on intelligence conducted a narcotics operation at the property where Morgan was the lone occupant. A quantity of cocaine worth $3.5M, twenty-seven 9mm rounds, and a .32 Taurus firearm with a magazine and 25 matching .32 rounds were found during the search. As a result, Morgan was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the illegal items. Police are expected to institute additional charges against him for the illegal firearm and ammunition.
Andrew Morgan is the brother of convicted drug trafficker Peter Morgan, who was released from a United States prison in 2015 after serving a 10-year sentence for conspiring to import, possess and distribute five kilogrammes of cocaine between December 2001 and August 2003. (G1)
